After changing the world with the generation-defining Slacker, director Richard Linklater turned his free-range v?rit? sensibility on the 1970s. As before, his all-seeing camera meanders across a landscape studded with goofy pop culture references and poignant glimpses of human nature. The story deals with a group of friends on the last day of high school, 1976. Surprisingly, it’s not a coming-of-age movie, but a film that dares ask the eternal, overwhelming, adolescent question, “What happens next?” It’s a little too honest to be a light comedy (representative quote: “If I ever say these were the best years of my life, remind me to kill myself.”). Customer Review: “George Washington was in a cult and the cult was into aliens.”
Many Americans enjoy this movie as the quintessential teen movie. Is it accurate? Not really. But it is fun. It’s a movie that doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is. It’s just a stoner movie that is beloved by many who lived through the American high school experience. As I’m not British, I don’t know how well it crosses the cultural divide. Apparantly some American phraseology is annoying such as “freshman” but really, this movie is not about Brits and doesn’t have to cater to those who can’t be bothered to enjoy a movie from another country. In the States we say “freshman” and “sophomore” and this movie is portraying an American high school, not a British one.

…in my opinion! If you don’t like movies where nothing major happens then don’t buy this film. But you’ll be missing out!

this is an absolute must for all fans of Paul Talling’s website of the same name.It gives an insight into the lesser known side of London,from hospitals to pubs,left to decay or be demolished to make way for yet more luxury flats (rabbit hutches) or offices.Its very sad to see the old,beautiful buildings like the numourus public houses being demolished,its like pulling the heart out of London’s history……………….Buy this book its brilliant!!!!

An excellent book, my only criticism being there is not enough of it!! The places are photographed beautifully, there is a full history of the buildings and to finish off with a section documenting some buildings that have been restored and renovated is pure class! This book does not disappoint, it is the most interesting book I have read in a long time!
