A fantastic guide to the london loop, a walking path that runs from erith all the way round the outside of london in an anti clockwise direction to coldharbour. which is right over the other side of the thames from erith. this is divided into fifteen different stages which vary from eight to thirteen miles in length.
The route is very well signposted along the way - with the exception of stage seven. The book has maps of each stage [sorry to read one reviewer didn't find them good because I found them very easy to read and use]and gives directions that are generally easy to follow. I mention stage seven as being the odd one out as it requires spotting a church on the horizon to go the right way over one common, and signs on this stage are conspicuous by their abscence. But the other stages are very well signposted.
All of them lead through woods and parkland and some fascinating pathways, villages that have been swallowed up by the metropolis, and there’s some remarkable things to see on the way. I’ve just finished this walk and thoroughly enjoyed it, and the book was an invaluable guide. So I highly recommend it. Although please note it doesn’t mention the end of stage four/start of stage five doesn’t have to be reached by bus, as whyteleafe station is a mere fifteen minutes walk away, and you can spot it on the maps.
Customer Review: Another excellent guide book from David Sharp
Having used David Sharp’s previous guide book on the Thames Path, I was expecting an entertaining and informative book on the London Loop.
The book lived up to all expectations. It is even more invaluable for the London Loop, as the path is not completely signposted in every area yet. If you are going to walk the London Loop, you need this guide!
Also included are a number of interesting facts about places and landmarks that you come across on your journey. Despite living in London all of my life, there were many things that I was not aware of. Fascinating stuff.

Customer Review: A factual error
I own one of the pubs listed, the George and Devonshire, in Chiswick. It is the oldest pub in Chiswick, built some time prior to 1657, and we still trade in the original building. However, Bob Steel commits the cardinal error of not checking his facts by casually stating the the pub is s ‘20th century re-build’, which would appear to be obvious nonsense to anyone who has actually visited the place! If Bob Steel did not visit the George and Devonshire, which is Casque Mark accredited for the quality of our real ale, how many other pubs included in the book were also not visited?
Customer Review: Had a great few days….
Spent an enjoyable few days “testing out” this Guide and I cant recommend it strongly enough. Its not really a guide to good beer, but a guide to Pub architecture and social history. Things like snug screens and astounding urinals… but the author also knows his beers and you can indeed find the very best beers as you wander along the walks. The illustrations show you what to expect and the maps guide you well. There are lots of little interjections and sidelines on Londons history and things to see en route between the pubs that you would otherwise miss and don’t feature in other guidebooks
We ended up missing out most of the so called Real tourist spots like Buckingham Palace, to see the actual Real London that this book can show you. From ancient Inn to “back Street boozer”. Came upon this via Rick Steves website and am jolly glad we did.

Customer Review: London made simple…
This is exactly what it says on the tin, or in this case - the map. It’s perfect for finding your way round the more central areas of London. It’s helpfully colour coded so you can easily find what you’re looking for, and the main attractions are additionally labeled.
On the reverse, there is a guide to some of the more popular places to see and visit, with a brief description of each of them, as well as some of the more basic “need to know” items for your average tourist.
You can’t fault this map for its attention to detail, but in my opinion, the detail is also its only downfall. As a tourist I would be happy to use this map at my hotel, to help plan my day, but I would be reluctant to use it on the street. It’s much too big when folded out, and draws attention to the fact you are a tourist. I believe this would work a lot better in a book format.
For content, I have not found a map which has as much useful information set out in such a user friendly way, but I would suggest using it in conjunction with a smaller, street friendly guide book or map.
Overall though - I’d consider this money well spent.
